October 5, 2025 Writing Prompts for the Week
Happy Sunday! As I write this, I’m staring out the window at both mountains and a lake in Utah and, let me tell you, a literal new perspective can certainly encourage a metaphorical one.
So even if you can’t schedule yourself a little retreat, how can you find your own literal fresh perspective? What windows can you look out of that you’ve never looked out of before; what streets can you stroll down that you’ve never strolled before? A few minutes of planning can open up all kinds of new way of seeing things.
And, in the meantime, here are your prompts!
This Week’s Prompts*
"Hi Randall, Jenelle, Shamaya...everyone come in and take a seat!"
Scrub brush looked like the mountain had donned a warm, nubby sweater for the fall.
Write a scene in which someone literally stumbles over something unexpected on a sidewalk.
We'd managed to arrange our layovers in Houston to overlap by a few hours, and I was buzzing in anticipation.
None of the food, on the counter or even in the refridgerator, was real.
Eaching "pop" and "fizzle" was lounder than the next.
Tiny teeth marks in the cheddar indicated that he had not, in fact, adequately replaced the Tupperware lid.
*How to Use These Prompts: The italicized prompts let you create your writing entirely from scratch; the non-italicized prompts are intended as your first line and jumping off point. But, at the same time, there are no rules. Write on!
For your born writer, nothing is so healing as the realization that he has come upon the right word.

At last, on Monday around ten or half past, Sybil van Antwerp carries the mug of Irish breakfast tea with milk to her desk.
