June 29, 2025 Writing Prompts for the Week
Happy Sunday! For me, summer always makes me think of going to the library and coming home with a biiiiiig stack of books to work my way through that week. Ah, bliss!
In the spirit of those bygone (and dearly missed) days, I’ve decided this: One afternoon this week, I’m going to turn off all of my electronics and dive back into a book from my childhood. Who’s with me??
Before then, though…how about some prompts?
This Week’s Prompts*
Blistering Lodge overlooked the bay, staring down scornfully at every ship that came near.
It seems silly in retrospect but, at the time, I considered Billee Kipp my personal nemesis.
Describe a baby's reaction to their first taste of lemon.
The mailman usually pulled up to the house between 11:34 and 11:41 AM, but today he was late.
"I could say 'I love you' in six different languages, but I won't," she sniffed.
There she stood: knee deep in the koi pond and all but ablaze with rage.
"Accountability? Accountability? Surely we have different definitions of 'accountability.'"
*How to Use These Prompts: The italicized prompts let you create your writing entirely from scratch; the non-italicized prompts are intended as your first line and jumping off point. But, at the same time, there are no rules. Write on!
Book(s) We’re Reading This Week
Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner
Tell me something was Shortlisted for the Booker Prize and you’ve already halfway sold me. Kushner’s book is an unexpected read—or maybe I should have just read the description a bit more closely? Think espionage-of-sorts, think eco-warriors and quasi-cults, and then also think the French countryside. It’s been an interesting mix of all of the above and I’m looking forward to see how the story and this very unusual protagonist shake out.

🍉 Speaking of libraries as a kid, don’t you miss those summer reading challenges? Great news: Here’s one you can do for yourself as an adult.
⚓️ In keeping with the kid fun theme, here’s how to make your own temporary tattoos. Cool for kids, even cooler for adults, if you ask me.
